Coconut Froth | Overtone Brewing Co | Kokebi Coffee | Latte Stout Collaboration

Back at the start of the year - March to be exact - I was delighted to announce that I was about to embark on a collaboration with one of my favourite breweries, Glasgow based Overtone Brewing Co with my Kokebi Coffee family.

This collaboration produced a wonderful seasonal Vanilla Latte Stout, aptly named Vanilla Froth. To my pleasure the success of this first brew quickly became one of the most popular beers in the Overtone range, reaching a striking 4.8 out of 5 on Untappd. Needless to say, there were plenty of empty glasses and smiles all round.

Jumping forward a few months (and pandemic restrictions being lifted), it was the height of Summer where I finally met the Overtone Brewing team at Brew LDN beer festival in person to discuss the idea of re-brewing something using Kokebi Coffee's Super Crema blend for the Winter. It was here that the idea for Coconut Froth was born.

Come September of 2021 it was time to kick start the wheels into motion, and the Kokebi Coffee team begun roasting and packaging their delicious Super Crema blend to ship up to Glasgow for master brewers Dan and Charlie to work their magic.

Coconut Froth was to be somewhat modelled on a Bounty chocolate bar, packed with chocolate flavour notes from the coffee, coconut and added milky lactose. It is for that reason that once again we elected Super Crema to attain rich layers of cocoa, nuts and light notes of Cedar wood, imparted by the rich Arabica and Robusta coffee bean blend. The results are spectacular.

Upon opening the can expect sweet coconut to romance the senses before diving into a rich, sweet and malty bitterness of cedar wood, coffee and dark chocolate on the palate. This is further emboldened by subtle spice aromas of the Magnum hops, delicately adding a foray of black pepper and nutmeg to the mix.

Once the rich flavours melt away you are awarded an almost incomprehensibly smooth finish and mouthfeel from the added lactose, while dark cacao and coconut still linger long after your last sip. It’s hard to believe that this beer boasts a staggering 9.0 ABV due to how smooth it is... Just be sure to give it a lil shake before opening to get that coconut sediment a whirling through the beverage!

With that said, I only hope you enjoy this beer as much as we all did making it. To find out more about the Overtone Brewing Co range, or purchase Coconut Froth, visit their website to get yours delivered here.
